The brief
En Directe Plurals provides live subtitling for regional and national broadcasters. They receive real-time video streams from the broadcasters’ premises, and every millisecond of latency delays the subtitles.
We designed a high-availability communications infrastructure built for exactly that: receiving professional video without drops and with minimal latency.
Technology
- Site-to-site fibre
- Switching
- Routing
- VLAN
- QoS
- Firewall
- Cat 6A
- UPS
Network optimised for video
- Site-to-site fibre links with the broadcasters’ premises
- Switching, routing and VLANs
- QoS prioritising AV traffic
- Minimal latency, jitter and packet loss on the stream transport
Security without penalising video
Advanced perimeter security and segmentation: corporate networks, production systems, media devices and external communications isolated from each other, without taking performance away from critical AV flows.
Subtitling equipment
Selection and integration of the professional media equipment, workstations and devices to receive, monitor and process the signals being subtitled.
End-to-end testing
- Throughput
- Latency and jitter
- Packet loss
- Stream stability
The result
An infrastructure ready to receive very low-latency professional video continuously and subtitle it in real time. We still run and maintain their infrastructure today.
