What does your camera really see?

A 4 MP camera doesn’t guarantee you can read a number plate. What counts is the pixels that land on the target, and those depend on the lens and the distance. Choose resolution, lens and distance and see which EN 62676-4 level you reach.

How it’s designed

First each camera’s purpose, then the model

EN 62676-4 defines four levels based on pixels per metre on the person or vehicle. Design starts by deciding what level each point needs and at what distance.

Entrances: identify

At doors and receptions, 250 px/m or more to identify anyone coming in. It usually needs a dedicated camera, close up and with a narrow scene.

Through areas: recognise or observe

In corridors, warehouses or indoor car parks, 62 to 125 px/m to follow what’s happening and recognise known people.

Perimeter: detect

In wide outdoor areas, 25 px/m is enough to know someone has come in and trigger an alarm or a more detailed camera.

Cameras that work on the day you need them

We design each point around its purpose, choose resolution and lens with these calculations, and install the cameras on their own network, never exposed to the internet.
